If you’re not heading out of town this weekend (seems like everyone’s traveling this week), here are a few suggestions for your Wallingford weekend.

Friday
The weekly Meaningful Movies shows a particularly timely film this week, in the context of the continuing Gulf oil spill:

Film: “BLACK WAVE: THE LEGACY OF THE EXXON VALDEZ” (99 min, Robert Cornellier, 2008)
For twenty years, Riki Ott and the fishermen of the little town of Cordova, Alaska have waged the longest legal battle in U.S. history against the world’s most powerful oil company, ExxonMobil. They tell us all about the environmental, social and economic consequences of the black wave that changed their lives forever. This is the legacy of the Exxon Valdez.

7:00 to 9:30, Keystone Congregational United Church of Christ, 5019 Keystone Place N., Seattle. Free but donations are welcome.

Saturday
In Tangletown, Leny’s Tavern (2219 N. 56th Street) is hosting a FamilyWorks Food Bank fundraiser BBQ, featuring pork shoulder, beef brisket, salmon, potato salad, cole slaw, corn muffins and beer.  The BBQ is 1-4 p.m.; the beer garden will be open 1-9 p.m. $12 in advance/$15 at door.

Later that evening, stroll down to the lawn in front of the Good Shepherd Center for Alliance Francaise‘s “Film en plein air,” the animated “Ratatouille.” The film starts at dusk and is free for Alliance Francaise members; $5 suggested donation for non-members.

Join us for a movie outdoors! Bring a picnic to enjoy during the movie and don’t forget a blanket to sit on! July’s movie is the animated feature “Ratatouille” shown in French with English subtitles.

In one of Paris’ finest restaurants, Remy, a determined young rat, dreams of becoming a renowned French chef. Torn between his family’s wishes and his true calling, Remy and his pal Linguini set in motion a hilarious chain of events that turns the City of Lights upside down!

Rated G, suitable for all audiences.
