Salon collecting toiletries for homeless youth

Marlow Harris wrote to tell us that Salon Metro is collecting toiletries for the Orion Center and Youth Care Transitional Living Program, which is located in Capitol Hill:

The shelter requests unopened shampoo, conditioner. straighteners, curlers, razors, plus soap for faces and bodies. Full size or travel size from your last hotel trip is fine. Also, if you have unused makeup, please consider donating that for these homeless teens who are struggling to stay in school and find jobs.

You can drop off your donations at Salon Metro, located at 1714 N. 45th in Wallingford. Regular hours are Tuesday-Friday, 11-7pm, Saturday-Sunday 9am-3pm. There will be a drop-off box in the salon.

Items that would help teens and young adults to get back on their feet and be presentable for job interviews are needed: soap, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, brushes, combs, etc. You may even have received gifts that you would rather pass on, like perfume or make up.

This is a very easy way to help the homeless young people in our community and show them that we care. If you don’t have travel-size toiletries to donate, consider purchasing a couple of extra items when you are doing your own shopping and drop them off at Salon Metro.  Specific hours may change slightly so you can always call first to check and make sure the donation box is staffed for that day or to make other arrangements for pick-up. Salon Metro’s phone number is 206-545-6905.
