Bus riders along Meridian Ave. N. will get a little break from the weather after King County Metro installs shelters in early 2011. Seattle Department of Transportation crews have been pouring footings for the shelters at N. 50th and N. 55th and Meridian this week, but Metro won’t put in the shelters themselves until January or February, Metro’s Dale Cummings estimated.
Cummings said that the new shelters were likely prioritized after some stops were eliminated along the 16 route last year, which consolidated boardings at fewer stops. A bus stop has to have minimum 50 boardings a day to be considered for a shelter, Cummings explained.
This certainly is one of the advantages of stop consolidation. Since it increases boardings at bus stops it makes investments like this more practical.
