Tangletown’s Mighty-O Donuts (2110 N 55th St.) will tangle with three other purveyors of delicious fried dough on  “Food Network Challenge: Donut Champions” next month.

Mighty-O’s Sarah Beth Russert in the heat of competition

From the press release:

The adrenaline rushing, spectator sport of reality food television has found its way to the world of donuts. Four of the nation’s best doughnut bakers compete in the first Challenge featuring this breakfast staple. In this two-round challenge, each competitor is pushed to build an original doughnut showpiece. The competitor with the most impressive structure at the end of the competition wins $10,000. The four competitors are: The Hole (Denver, CO), Blue Collar Joe’s (Daleville, VA), and two of Seattle’s most notable donut makers, Mighty-O Donuts and Top Pot Doughnuts.

As one of the first organic donut retailers in the country, and the only one in Seattle, Mighty-O Donuts fills a niche that will be put to the test against the other more conventional donut makers on the show. With half of the contestants coming from Seattle, Mighty-O Donuts and Top Pot Doughnuts, a “hometown showdown” becomes a natural second contest.

Mighty-O’s contender, Sara Beth Russert, brings a twelve year history of baking knowledge and affinity for organic ingredients to Mighty-O Donuts. She learned to bake at a vegan café in Costa Mesa, CA and her five years of baking at Mighty-O Donuts gives her a strong background to compete on the show. When owner Ryan Kellner received the invitation to appear on Food Network Challenge: Donut Champions, Sara Beth was his natural choice.

The donut challenge will air April 10 at 8 p.m. on the Food Network.

  1. Between the two in Seattle……no contest. Mighty-O wins hands down. Better donut, better ingredients and no guilt after eating them.
