Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and this Friday you’ll have an opportunity to kick off the holiday with your neighbors. This Friday, November 18, the Wallingford Community Kitchen is hosting a holiday party, and is inviting everyone in the neighborhood. The dinner party will be at the Wallingford Community Senior Center (WCSC) at the Good Shepherd Center (4649 Sunnyside Ave. N.) in room 140, from 5:30 to 9 p.m.

The event is free, however each family is encouraged to bring an ingredient to add to a soup, as well as a side dish (appetizer, salad, dessert or drink). WCSC Program Coordinator Norah Erwin-Stewart writes that they hope to, “get creative,” with up to four different soups, depending on how many people can come. “We will be making a communal soup and Emma Notkin will lead us in baking & decorating sugar cookies. We cook as a community and then enjoy the bounties of our labor by sitting down to share a meal,” writes Erwin-Stewart. She says it will be a vegetarian meal, so no meat products.

She says WCSC is always in need of extra containers, so bring along your, “gently used and clean plastic yogurt, sour cream, salsa, etc. containers to contribute.”

If you need some ideas for what to bring, Erwin-Stewart posted a long list of options on the event’s website. They ask that you RSVP if you plan on attending. The cooking will start promptly at 5:30 p.m., and they hope to be sitting down, enjoying the meal by 8 p.m.
