Occupy Seattle at Gasworks Park on Thanksgiving

The Occupy Seattle movement has scheduled a Thanksgiving potluck at Gasworks Park in Wallingford. The potluck starts at 2 p.m. on Thursday, and everyone is welcome.

“We celebrate the community we have created, the kindness and support we have received, and the hope we are inspiring by our work to shine the light on economic injustice,” the group wrote in an email. “We gather as a community in support of Occupy Seattle and Occupy Wall Street. There is room for everybody at this Thanksgiving table, all 99% of us!”

As with many Occupy movements around the country, Occupy Seattle has not been without its share of clashes with the police. Recent protests that have gained national attention include 84-year-old Dorli Rainey getting pepper-sprayed in the face, and the more recent allegations by 19-year-old Jennifer Fox who says police are responsible for her miscarriage. The potluck will have 2o volunteers making food for over 100 people. If you’re interested in attending, sign up here.

  1. Richard – I am afraid the reason many don't understand the true reasoning behind occupy is that it has been diluted by those who are just hangers-on taking advantage of the system set up by occupy founders.   They need to clean house and clarify their message.   Otherwise, I am afraid that  it is doomed to failure 🙁
