Two of Wallingford’s most acclaimed chefs — Rachel Yang from Joule and Amy McCray from Eva — will put their skills to work in a benefit for FamilyWorks Food Bank called “Food Bank Gourmet.”

Yang and McCray will do “an interactive cooking demonstration as they create dishes with items typically found in the FamilyWorks Food Bank” on Sunday, March 27. Local celebrity chef Kathy Casey will emcee the event.

FamilyWorks Director Jake Weber told us how the idea for “Food Bank Gourmet” sprang up:

We are always brainstorming ways to get the community involved, for people to learn about the food bank (and resource center) and participate in efforts to ease hunger – and this seemed like a fun way to do it, because we all love, need and want good food – plus, we have such revered Chefs in our community! I look forward to sharing the recipes with the food bank customers.

Guests will also tour the FamilyWorks resource center and food bank, enjoy a wine tasting by Sozo Planet, and snack on  appetizers. Recipes from the demonstration will be shared with guests, as well as food bank customers. The minimum age for attendance is 21. Tickets are $25/person and can be purchased from Brown Bag Tickets.
